Do you get time to sit with what’s moving inside you?
The ability to just notice without judgement?
Do you know how to connect with your breath? Can you notice when you’re overstimulated or over-stressed?
Can you name what you’re feeling in difficult moments?
Can you allow feelings to come and go no matter the situation?
Can you connect your mind and body and understand how and why your body reacts?
Can you concentrate on one thing at one time?
Can you find calm in challenging moments?
Can you listen to your bodies needs?
Can you actively listen to others?
Can you attune your senses to participate fully in the life that is unfolding for you?

Can you find that level of calm?
Being completely honest, after 15 years of learning, self study and daily practice, I would admit that I can sometimes connect with those levels of awareness. But wouldn’t it be amazing if we could always. No, better than that, wouldn’t it be amazing if our children, our grandchildren, the kids next door and the teens up the road could live that conscious awareness. What might happen?
What would happen?
Could you imagine what would happen if all children knew how to notice their needs and act on them with self love and care? If they all knew how to process and accept their feelings? Perhaps they might then know how to care for others and the planet in the same way. Imagine a whole generation that could do that. Even a whole population that could do that and maybe even a whole world that could do that. What would that mean for our world?
I guess the answer would be…Peace.
I am by no means a perfect parent. And we can all take a loving breath there and give ourselves a break because ‘perfect parents’ simply don’t exist. Phew – expectation over! In my Familee; we cannot tick everything off that top paragraph as done. Maybe it’s impossible to, as self-study is a lifelong experience. In life we go through cycles, one minute we think we have something nailed and then the cycle transitions and we’re learning more, growing wiser, taking on new life assignments, pushing through challenges. Most of these are not easy, but we come out the other side and into the next phase of the cycle.
It all starts with intention
What if intention was more important than outcome? I tell my kids that it doesn’t matter how it works out; the homework, the conversation, the recipe etc – it’s that the intention was there in the first place. Do it with intention I say and see what happens..it’s ok if it doesn’t work out. Perhaps that is not the wisdom of a high achiever?! Perhaps not.
My intention right now
So that first paragraph in this post is my intention right now. I’m willing to let go of how it works out. It is my intention to support my children and others in sitting with what’s moving inside them.
To notice without judgement.
To connect with their breath.
To notice when they’re overstimulated or over-stressed.
To name their feelings and allow them to come and go.
To connect with their minds and bodies
To be able to concentrate their mind.
To find calm in challenging moments.
To listen to their bodies needs.
To actively listen to others?
To attune their senses to participate fully in the life that is unfolding for them.
It is my intention to make this accessible to every child, no matter their situation.
How is this going to play out?
I’m still not quite sure. I set the intention, and let the outcome be what it will be. Right now it is providing one free audio yoga story session. It’s a short yoga-style story exploring movement, breath and feelings. There are more too. I’ve recorded five kids audio sessions so far and I have some more for teens, tots and parents bubbling away.
I’ve called this little project Rhythm & Rest. I hope to maybe take these sessions in-person to the many children we meet on our travels in little yoga workshops.
I’ve set the intention…so we’ll see…
I’d love to hear how you work with intention, purpose or manifesting in the travelling community. Drop me a line if you’d like to.
If you’d like to check out the free audio – it’s here. Also a link to the others I have recorded.
Much love and thanks for reading xxx
